The construction of the Management Disciplines at Tianjin University started with the establishment of the Institute of Systems Engineering in 1978. In 1984, the School of Management, one of the four universities to establish a School of Economics and Management, was founded with approval from the Ministry of Education. Thanks to the efforts of several generations of students of management and economics, the College of Management and Economics (CoME) begins to flourish in 4 decades of accumulation and always leads the way in the era, and thus it becomes domestic-leading and world-renowned to consistently contribute to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation holding onto the concept of "with the homeland in hearts, be pragmatic and persistent".
Bearing in mind the mission of “We develop leaders with fact-based thinking, innovative spirit and social awareness through the creation, application, dissemination and integration of management, economics and engineering knowledge.” and the vision of “We aspire to be a globally recognized educational institute of management and economics, pursuing teaching excellence and transformative research with impact.”, CoME has achieved compelling results in various domains including education and teaching,talent fostering, scientific research, and social service. Especially in discipline construction, Management Science and Engineering Discipline continues to lead the way in China, and Business Administration has made landmark breakthroughs.
2023 marked the 100th birthday of Mr. Liu Bao, the founding president of the College. Students and teachers of Management and Economics at Tianjin University will shoulder the mission of higher education in the new era inspired by the spirit of "remaining commitied to rejuvenating the country, exploring tirelessly and eventually with a broad mind" of Mr. Liu Bao, upholding the original intention of cultivating talent for the Party and the State, advance the Tianjin University’s talent-training strategies and CoME’s development concept of "New Business", and deepen innovation and cooperation to cultivate outstanding innovative leading talents in the Chinese context, carry out upstanding and dauntless research that caters to the nation’s strategic needs, contribute to the cuting-edge management ideas to building a community with a shared future for mankind, and strive to construct the world-leading discipline of management and economics.
