Discipline introduction

1.Profile of discipline

Tianjin University is one of the universities and colleges to establish the discipline of business administration, which originally came from the earliest major of technical economy at the beginning of 1980s in China. The doctor program of technical economy and management is the national key discipline and key discipline in Tianjin, and its business administration is the first-class key discipline in Tianjin. Its MBA and EMBA are the first batch of pilot programs in China.

2.Five special research fields

At present, business administration discipline in Tianjin University has developed some special fields: (1) the technical economy and management with its features of technical innovation evaluation, management, and sustainable development of regional economy; (2) operation management and quality management to emphasize the knowledge management and six sigma management; (3) finance with its features of capital market analysis and enterprise financing decision; (4) marketing science and management with its orientation of brand management, customer relation management, and engineering market; (5) tourism management with its features of tourism development, planning, tourism resource utilization and protection.

3.Discipline development and some symbolical achievements in recent years

This discipline has 1 nationally teacher, 3 new-century talents by Ministry of Education, 1 member of National MBA Education and Instruction Committee, and other teachers who take position in important academic organizations and journals. In recent five years, it has got one 1st award of Science and Technology Progress Awards of Ministry of Education, one 2nd award and one 3rd award of Province Departmental Level Awards for Progress in Science and Technology, ten awards of Tianjin Outstanding Achievements in Social Science (including one 1st award and five second awards). In recent three year, it shoulders 66 portrait programs of scientific research including National Key Technology Research and Development of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, National Natural Science Foundation, National Social Science Foundation and others (actual expenditure is RMB 6.5258 million), and horizontal expenditure is RMB 13.92 million; and has made 73 publications in SCI/SSCI/EI. Among them, one publication is selected as “top 100 with the most influential publications” in 2008. It has also organized “marketing management faculty training class” and “international seminar of marketing science application” of China National MBA Education Supervisory Committee twice, as well as “cross-trait business exchange camp” and other programs of Ministry of Education; many teachers have made research and teaching work in Cambridge and other universities. The research achievement of “central management system of oil enterprise capital” has got the National Awards Nominations for Progress in Science and Technology by the Ministry of Education. In 2012, the program expenditure of “key technology development and demonstration of green school construction and management” listed as 12th five-year plan National Key Technology Research and Development of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China amounted to RMB 3 million. One case has got the title of the 200th excellent teaching case by China National MBA Education Supervisory Committee.

The discipline has worked with enterprises, and began to launch the research of six sigma management theory applied in more than 20 ones, which has got the high evaluation of China Association for Quality.

It has carried out a lot of work in tourism management consultation, tourism regional planning, tourism social poverty alleviation and others, and got sound social and economic benefits. Entrusted by Tianjin Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, it has directed and drafted the 11th and 12th five-year independent brand development planning of industrial enterprise in Tianjin, and the main contents have been included in governmental work report of Tianjin. The successful application of customized countermeasures made by the discipline to build the modern enterprise system and optimize business process for Bohai Metallurgy Group and Tianjin Pipe Corporation has remarkably improved the core competitiveness. It has undertaken the mission of key investigation topic and decision topic of Tianjin Government, and the governmental consultation report about human resource management and macro environment of Binhai New Area, which has been got the instructed by Gaoli Zhang, Xingguo Huang and other Tianjin leaders.

4.Cultivate many management leaders for regional economic development of Xinjiang, Tianjin and others

Entrusted by United Front Work Department of CPC Central Committee, Party Committee of Xinjiang, Sate Ethnic Affairs Commission and others, from 1990, it began to establish leader training classes of economic management for Xinjiang for 27 times in the past 21 years, which have improved greatly quality of Xinjiang leaders and management of enterprise operation, and played an important role in realizing great-leap-forward development and long term stability. The discipline is the education foundation for GM of state-owned large and medium enterprises of Tianjin SASAC, and cultivates a lot of leaders for enterprise.
