2.Program Features
Tianjin University was granted to offer master's degree of Information Science in 2004 and officially recruited students in 2005. The master’s program back a century-old Tianjin University Library, and has an academic team with information science and engineering background. The faculty consists of academic backbone tutors with rich library and information practice and research experience, and experts at home and abroad to hold lectures and seminars.
The main research direction of the program focuses on hot issues that are urgently needed to be addressed including: Intelligence research and information product solutions(study and analysis of competitive intelligence, strategic decision-making information service system research, information user needs research and information consulting services evaluation, model and management of network reference and consulting service, research and practice of information services coming into the process of knowledge innovation, etc.); Intellectual property use and public services research (research of ability to use intellectual property for firms, an analysis of patented technology and research of early warning mechanism, intellectual property intermediary service capabilities, research of credit evaluation and public information service platform of intellectual property construction); Information resource organization and management (research of information resource organization and management, such as researching metadata and its related standards; Knowledge organization and knowledge discovery methods research; Integration research of electronic information resources; Research of evaluation and utilization of network resources; Research of information security in knowledge innovation system; Research of regional information resources building, sharing and protecting mechanism, etc.); Construction and management of digital library (research of related theory and practice of digital library, such as research of digital library construction mode; research of knowledge service model in digital environment; research of digital library and E-Science, and the digital library and E-learning; research of resource sharing and intellectual property protection in digital environment; research of information security in digital environment).
3.Major Scientific Projects and Achievements for the Past Years
In recent years, we have completed several research projects of Calis and Tianjin municipality, published over 10 academic papers and several monographs and textbooks, and currently undertaken 6 research projects.

5.Main Courses and Thesis Requirements During Graduate Study
Major courses during graduate study: Fundamentals of Management Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Managerial Economics, Paradigms and Methods of Management Research, Computer Aided Management, Bibliometrics, Competitive Intelligence, Network Information Resources Retrieval and Utilization, Intellectual Property and Patent Intelligence.Topic of thesis needs to be chosen on the basis of a certain theoretical meanings and practical values.Students are required to extensively read main literature of this field and have knowledge of academic activities and main direction of the thesis so as to put forward new ideas. Thesis should be highly valuable for theoretical research and practical use. Thesis writing should be provided in an orderly and rational manner with smooth writing and consistent with specifications scientific writing.

The program is committed to train senior intelligence (information) talents with solid and systematic intelligence (information) theoretical basis, abilities of network information retrieval and organization and management of information resources, innovation spirit, strong practice abilities, and adaptationto the needs of the discipline and social development.
Graduates of the program could work in information consulting companies, large enterprises, information resources development and service companies, government bodies, information institutes, universities and public libraries, to engage in information management, information development, information consulting and services, relevant research and teaching work and other related work.
