Jumping over the Dragon Gate” Fork Art Museum Offered Experiential Courses for Students of Tianjin University

  At the beginning of the new semester, students from CoME of Tianjin University (hereinafter refer to as TJU) came to Jumping over the Dragon Gate” Fork Art Museum of Feng Jicai Institute of Literature and Art Tianjin University. They took part in a customized experiential class to learn about the restoration and conservation of cultural relics.

  Jumping over the Dragon Gate” Fork Art Museum has become an aesthetic education base for teachers and students of TJU to learn traditional culture and receive spiritual cultivation. In addition to offering inspiring tours, the museum often hosts various activities that sow the seeds of culture into the minds of students through interesting experiences and practices.

  Zhi-cai Zhou and Xiao-juan Sun, well-known experts of cultural relics protection and restoration in Tianjin, were invited to explain the professional knowledge of cultural relics restoration and conservation. Two teachers brought two pieces of ancient porcelain in restoration that were from the Tang Dynasty and Yuan Dynasty. While explaining the restoration process, they invited students to touch it with their own hands. They also presented how to repair, maintain and clean handicraft of different materials on-site, combining with the actual needs of daily life. They led the students to practice the operation. Piecing broken pots, repairing broken paper fans, maintaining seals, cleaning woodwork and etc., these rich collection of folk art in the museum has opened students' eyes and stimulated their interest in traditional culture with hands-on experience under the guidance of experts.
