Bio: Prof. Dr. Armin F. Schwolgin was born in 1953 in Mecklenburg, former East Germany. Since 2002 he is a Professor at Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University Loerrach (DHBW Loerrach) in southern Germany; in 2004 he became head of the Department of Forwarding, Transport and Logistics (Bachelor). From 2007 to 2010 he served as Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration. Besides his function in the Bachelor program he became head of the Master program in Logistics Management in spring of 2012. In December 2012 Beijing Wuzi University made him an Adjunct Professor.

Dr. Schwolgin studied Business Administration and Economics at Ruhr-University Bochum in Germany. From 1979 to 1984 he worked there as research assistant at the chair of Prof. Dr. Joachim Suechting. After doing research work at the Stern School of Business in New York he received his Doctoral Degree (PhD) from Ruhr-University Bochum in December 1984. The PhD thesis was titled “Financial Innovation and Minimum Reserve Requirements”.

Subsequently to his academic work he held higher management positions in the area of finance and controlling in the Bayer Group, including positions in the USA and Brazil. In 1998 he became Chief Financial Officer of DB Regio AG, the national commuter train company of German Railways. After some consulting work for the Dutch Railways he went back into academia. In addition to his teaching and research activities at DHBW Loerrach and Beijing Wuzi University he is co-editor of Praxishandbuch Logistik (Handbook of Logistics) and the research series of the Loerrach Logistics Forum. His preferred areas in teaching and research are finance and controlling for logistics companies as well as logistics in Brazil. Colombia, and China.
